GOVERNMENT ministers may have their spin doctors but it seems there’s no more powerful advocate than a woman whose husband has been scorned.

So writer Joe O’Connor discovered when he lampooned the cabinet’s lengthy summer holidays in his weekly radio diary. Victoria White, aka Mrs Eamon Ryan, took issue with the author’s musings on RTÉ’s Drivetime and penned a reply which began: “I’m a minister’s wife and I’m just sick to death.

“The Dáil may be out but, of course, the cabinet works through the summer, with a short break in August, during which time my husband may reacquaint himself with his family.”
