Sudan expects aid workers’ release

THE Sudanese government still expects the imminent release of aid workers Sharon Commins and Hilda Kawuki despite a ransom demand of US$2 million (about €1.43m) from the gang holding the women captive.

The government in Khartoum put a value on the ransom demand for the first time yesterday, although the Department of Foreign Affairs here refused to comment.

Ms Commins, 32, and her Ugandan colleague, 42-year-old Ms Kawuki, were kidnapped by a gang of six armed men from their GOAL compound in Kutum in Darfur on July 3.
