Two killed in road accidents
In west Cork, a man died after the van he was driving collided with a bus.
It is understood the Bus Éireann driver and six passengers on board yesterday’s 9.45am Cork to Skibbereen bus are in a state of shock but did not sustain any serious injuries.
The collision happened shortly after 11am, two miles outside Clonakilty, at an area known locally as Sam’s Cross. The van had been parked on the side of the road prior to the collision.
The deceased was named later as Ranier Wischniewske, a 62-year-old man living in Clonakilty.
Two people were also injured and they were removed to Cork University Hospital but have since been released.
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man died following a collision in Dunkerrin in Co Offaly in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The driver was the sole occupant of an Alpha Romeo car that hit an animal on the main N7 Dublin to Limerick Road near Moneygall.
The man, from Ballinasloe, Co Galway, was driving near Clashagad, Dunkerrin.
He was taken to Nenagh General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
