It was a hostelry noted for sing-songs, where Killorglin-born people home for Puck would renew acquaintance with old friends and where sheep farmers from the mountains around Glencar would discuss the fair over “mediums” of stout.

As neighbours in Langford Street tried to come to terms with the tragic deaths of the two sisters, they huddled in knots in the blistering June sunshine remembering people they described as special.
