A LEADING group of biologists who have been studying the deadly swine flu strain claimed they had never seen its like before.

After comparing the first complete DNA sequence with thousands of other influenza strains, the NUI Maynooth scientists found it was completely different to any other type.

The genetic experts discovered what was already suspected — the strain is a mix of genes from swine (pigs), bird and human viruses.
