20-year-old charged after pistol find
Richard Brady, aged 20, from Mourne Road in Drimnagh, south Dublin, was brought before the Bridewell District Court yesterday morning.
He was charged with possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose at Crumlin, south Dublin, last Saturday. GardaĂ from Sundrive Road Station stopped the defendant and two other youths at around 2.30am on Crumlin Road. A loaded Glock pistol was seized at the scene.
The three men were detained at Sundrive Road Station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Brady was cautioned and charged at the station on Sunday and detained overnight pending his appearance at court this morning. The other two men, also aged in their early 20s, were released without charge.
Brady, dressed in a blue hoody top and blue and white tracksuit bottoms, sat quietly during yesterday’s hearing.
Responding to an application for bail by the accused, Garda Mark Doran of Sundrive Road sought a €5,000 bond in cash and an independent surety of €5,000. He also asked that Brady surrender his passport and carry a mobile phone with him at all times. He also requested a nighttime curfew.
Judge Leo Malone remanded Brady in custody with consent to bail to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Monday.
He set Brady’s own bail at €5,000 in cash and independent surety at €5,000.
Judge Malone directed that Brady surrender his passport and not apply for a new one.
