Gardaí await postmortem report into suspicious death of man
And, in a separate incident, a man’s body was recovered from the sea by the crew of a trawler about 4km off Ballycotton yesterday afternoon.
The exact circumstances surrounding the discovery were unclear last night. However, it is understood the man in his 50s was a council worker who got in to difficulties after going for a swim.
Gardaí were trying to contact his relatives last night.
Meanwhile, gardaí in Bandon confirmed they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Michael Lordan, 50, following his collapse in a house in the Deerpark area of the town last Thursday.
Mr Lordan was taken to hospital but died later.
Gardaí confirmed that he was the victim of an assault in or around the Deerpark area on September 15.
They have conducted door-to-door enquiries in the area and said they are awaiting the results of a postmortem before deciding whether or not to upgrade their investigation.
In an unrelated development, they appealed to the public for help tracing Patrick (Paki) Williamson, 35, who has been missing since last month.
He was last reported seen in McSweeney Quay area of Bandon on the morning of September 15. He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a red belt. He is 6’1” tall, with brown hair and blue eyes.
