One person in every 50 an identity theft victim

ONE in every 50 people in Ireland has already been the victim of identity fraud.

With eight out of 10 saying they throw personal information in the bin without shredding it, people have been warned they should be doing more to protect their identities.

Research commissioned by manufacturing firm Fellowes, as part of national identity fraud prevention week, also found nine out of 10 people believe they are at risk from identity fraud and less than half know what they should be doing to protect their identities.
