THE country’s largest supermarket chain has launched an all-out attack on low-cost outlets, Lidl and Aldi, by promising to cut prices to match their competitors.

From tomorrow, all Tesco supermarkets, barring their Express convenience stores, will have a separate Cash Savers section offering up to 1,000 groceries at lower than current prices.

Most of the budget items will come from the existing Tesco own-brand range and the Tesco Value range, distinguished by its plain white packaging, while some will be well-known brands such as Hovis breads and Farleys infant food.
