Two men questioned over bank raid

A SECOND person was still being questioned last night by gardaí in connection with a bank raid on Monday.

Gardaí arrested one man within three hours of the Bank of Ireland robbery in Kilmallock, Co Limerick, after they had surrounded a house in the Martinstown area.

However, later that day, another man was arrested.

Both men, aged in their 30s and 40s, are from Limerick city.

Gardaí, meanwhile, are looking for a third man.

The car used in the raid has been recovered along with some of the money taken from the bank. However several thousand euro is, reportedly, still missing. It is believed that about €7,000 was taken.

A gang of three men had driven up to the bank at Lord Edward Street in Kilmallock at around 11.30am. They wore high visibility fluorescent jackets and masks.

After grabbing bundles of cash they sped off in a Rover car.

During the robbery, one of the raiders brandished a scissors as they shouted at customers and staff members.

The bank reopened for business yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, the period of detention for the two men under arrest was extended yesterday.
