Foul play ruled out in death of 22-year-old man

GARDAÍ sealed off a house in Cork city over the weekend, following the discovery of the body of a man believed to be a University College Cork student.

Foul play ruled out in death of 22-year-old man

The body of the 22-year-old was found at the rear of a house in College Road shortly before 1pm on Saturday.

Gardaí preserved the scene for technical examination while an ambulance took the body to Cork University Hospital.

A postmortem ruled out foul play, gardaí said yesterday afternoon.

The dead man has not been named but is believed to have been studying at UCC, as College Road is predominantly a student area.

Last night UCC students’ union president Kris McElhinney said news of the death would hit the city’s student community hard.

“It’s important to remember the young man’s family and friends as it is bound to be an extremely hard time for them,” said Mr McElhinney. “Our thoughts are with them all, but in particular the family. It is always a terrible shame to lose someone so young.

“The College Road would be a predominantly student community, so there are likely to be a lot of people deeply affected by this death.”
