First project to be unveiled in €10bn docklands revamp
Developers Howard Holdings confirmed last night that they will unveil details on March 6 of their €750m Atlantic Quarter project, to be built in the city’s south docklands.
Howard Holdings said they are confident that Atlantic Quarter will spearhead the 200-acre regeneration project.
The development, earmarked for a former Ford’s site close to Páirc Uí Chaoimh and alongside the river Lee, includes:
600 residential units.
A range of shops.
A 200-bedroom hotel.
A 6,000 capacity conference and events centre.
A planning application is expected shortly afterwards.
The company is billing it as “one of the most important projects in Cork’s history”.
It says the project will be of both regional and national significance.
It is understood the company is ready to start construction later this year.
Meanwhile, the Docklands Forum, established by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and chaired by former UCC president Gerry Wrixon, is expected to report back to the Government by June on issues that need to be tackled at national level to facilitate and fast-track the docklands regeneration.
