Robbing in the rain... with a brolly

SOME of Limerick’s more delicate criminals would appear to have strict healthcare criteria when preparing for jobs that necessitate venturing outdoors.

Robbing in the rain... with a brolly

Whatever about a bulletproof vest, a brolly seems to be a must during the wet weather of late.

It appears two teenage thieves feared a wetting more than anything else when going out on a raid last Monday in heavy rain. As well as brandishing a handgun, they also held aloft an umbrella.

Staff at the Amber filling station at Old Cork Road were confronted by the two. On entering, they calmly closed the multicolour umbrella and demanded cash.

Shocked staff were forced to hand over an undisclosed sum of money. As they left, one of the duo opened up the brolly before taking off on foot.

Seeking help from the public, Supt Frank O’Brien of Roxboro Road Garda Station said the robbers struck at about 4.15pm. The youths wore some form of disguise.

“They had a multicolour umbrella, which they had up, and this might have caught the attention of people passing by at the time.”
