Murdered teen’s mum gives fishing contest ‘thank-you’
More than 40 fishermen will take part in an angling competition to commemorate murdered Limerick teenager, Richard ‘Happy’ Kelly. It will be held at the lake in Co Clare where his body were discovered last November.
‘Happy’ disappeared on April 26, 2006, when he was aged 17.
A fisherman discovered his remains in Lough Brigid near Bodyke on November 29 last year.
His mother, Mary Kelly has put up a bronze trophy for Sunday’s fishing competition as a “thank-you” to all who helped in the search of the lake.
She had pledged never to go near the lake, but her sons, Robert and Edward, will travel there for the fishing competition.
She said she had decided to put up a prize for the competition as a gesture to the fisherman who discovered her son’s remains, as well as to all those who took part in the search of the lake.
She has met with the fisherman who brought her 20-month agonising wait to an end and enabled her give her son a proper funeral.
Ms Kelly said she now wants justice for her son.
‘Happy’ was a known joyrider and gardaí suspect he fell foul of a violent drugs gang who operate in Southill where he lived.
English psychic, Denis McKenzie who came over to help in the search told Ms Kelly that her son’s remains were in a lake in Clare.
Mr McKenzie said he has given the names of certain individuals to gardaí who, he says, would be able to assist them with their continuing investigation.
