Man interviewed over death of plasterer

GARDAÍ were quizzing a man last night in connection with the death of plasterer Tommy Thompson, whose remains were found in a shallow grave this week.

The body of the father of five was missing for nine months before Garda sniffer dogs and search teams discovered it dumped in woods in Co Laois on Wednesday.

The 59-year-old plasterer was owed money from other workers who had done jobs with him, according to locals, but a row over the debt turned nasty.

Mr Thompson, originally from York, central England, had worked and resided in and around the midlands for up to eight years.

His wife, Sandra, and other family members flew over to Ireland yesterday to help identify the tradesman’s body.

According to one local source, Mr Thompson had been keen to get his money back from other workers. “They reneged on the payment and he chased them up for it. He blacklisted them when he was in contact with other contractors and it got nasty enough after that.”
