CONTROVERSIAL differences in suicide rates between Dublin and rural communities can be explained by a failure to keep proper records in the capital.

Researchers have examined the results of 1,800 inquests and found the standard form — form 104 — used to record deaths was not completed in many Dublin cases.

The National Suicide Research Foundation found Dublin-based inquests accounted for the majority of incidents where form 104 was not completed.
