Dolores McNamara’s son seeks damages over building site fall
Gary McNamara, 28, claims in papers lodged in court he received serious injuries when he fell while working on a Limerick construction site three years ago, months prior to his mother’s €115 million win.
Mr McNamara, a blocklayer by trade, is seeking substantial damages for the injuries he claims he sustained in the alleged work fall.
However, it is believed the construction company is vigorously contesting his claim and intends to mount a defence when the matter comes to court.
In a separate incident Mr McNamara was rushed to hospital in the early hours of December 21 when he jumped from a first-floor window of a house in Castleconnell adjacent to his own home in the centre of the village.
Gardaí have discounted speculation that there was a kidnap attempt on Mr McNamara at the time.
Mr McNamara presented himself at Nenagh General Hospital after the fall in Castleconnell and was transferred by ambulance to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital where he was treated for a broken ankle along with cuts and bruises.
Shortly after Ms McNamara’s win, gardaí advised Gary McNamara to move out of Limerick city as they had uncovered information of a kidnap threat to him.
He moved to Castleconnell where he purchased a house for €360,000.
He subsequently purchased a five-acre site near the village where he is building a 4,200sq ft mansion costing an estimated €1 million.
Last November he infuriated local people when he drove a van through the adjacent soccer pitch while an under-aged game was in progress.
Mr McNamara claimed he took the action after spectators at the game blocked the entrance to his site with parked cars.
He said people had repeatedly blocked the entrance despite his requests to the club to prevent this happening.
At the time he claimed locals were jealous of him.
“They must be jealous of me over building a big house when they’re at home starving,” he said.
Gardaí investigated the incident.
