‘Happy’ Kelly’s mother seeks justice for son
The funeral Mass for Richard “Happy” Kelly, 17, whose remains were discovered in Lough Bridget in Co Clare last month, takes place in Southill tomorrow.
Mary Kelly said it is of some relief to her that she can have a grave to go to after her son disappeared 20 months ago.
She told Limerick’s Live 95FM: “It was a long wait and I didn’t expect to get him back. Thank God, I have him now, I’ll bury him with pride and dignity. He deserves that. I hope I can get justice now for my child because I knew ‘Happy’ would never walk away from me. All I want now is justice for my family. Whatever happened him, he didn’t deserve it. He was involved in petty crime but nothing major.”
Garda divers discovered a rope and concrete block had been used when his body was dumped in the lake.
Gardaí suspect he was killed by a local drugs gang after he stole a car belonging to the gang which contained drugs and guns.
He disappeared on April 24, 2006.
Ms Kelly said: “My life stopped last year. I fought all the time looking for my son, now I will fight for justice. That is the only way I can put closure on this.”
