HIV stigma stops people getting tested

HIV and Aids-related stigma is rife in Ireland, with more than eight in 10 of those living with HIV viewed negatively and prejudice preventing people from going forward for HIV testing.

With 4,149 new cases of HIV reported in Ireland between 1990 and last year, a survey published today by Stamp Out Stigma reveals 49% of those with HIV have experienced discrimination at the hands of friends, and 43% have been discriminated against in their local community.
