Three arrested after fleeing scene of shooting

The drama unfolded yesterday morning in Finglas after two of the gunmen had earlier tried to steal motorbikes from outside a home in the area.

When the occupants of the house confronted the men, a row ensued and one of the men produced a gun and fired a number of shots.

The occupants dived for cover and escaped injury.

A Garda spokesman said: “Shortly after 3am on Sunday an incident occurred at Liam Mellows Park, Finglas, involving the alleged attempted theft of two motorcycles by two men from a private house.

“During an altercation with persons in the house, one of the men produced a handgun and discharged shots. It appears at this stage that a total of three shots were fired.

“Gardaí responded to the incident and in a follow-up operation recovered a firearm, believed to be a Beretta handgun, which is undergoing ballistics and technical examination at the Garda Technical Bureau.

“Gardaí also arrested three men in their 20s and they are currently detained at Finglas Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.”
