IRISH workers are happier in their jobs than this time last year, according to the results of a survey published yesterday.

Survey: Workers happier in jobs

Nonetheless, the majority intend to change their jobs in the next 12 months regardless of whether they are happy in their role or not.

Recruitireland.com surveyed more than 1,000 workers and found job satisfaction had risen to 70% from 61% in 2006. Nevertheless, 54% of those workers intended to change job within a year.

The survey also examined participants’ attitudes to their jobs and found one in three claimed to be overworked and one in two reported their job does not hold sufficient challenges to keep them happy in their work.

Emma Henry of RecruitIreland.com said: “The fact that 70% of workers are happy in their job is very positive news. However, this still amounts to almost a third of the working population feeling dissatisfied with their roles.” Elsewhere, 61% said they believed it would be difficult to find a new job.

The most influential factor in changing jobs was career progression and the other major consideration was proximity to home.
