Gardaí may get power to bug homes and cars

GARDAÍ may get MI5-type powers in the escalating war on organised crime.

Justice Minister Brian Lenihan said his officials were examining whether to give gardaí the power to bug homes, cars and other places.

Gardaí presently only have the legal power to tap the phones of suspects.
