Lack of grief policies in the workplace

THE majority of Irish companies do not have clear guidelines for managing bereavement in the workplace, even though one in 10 working people are directly affected by a death each year.

That is the according to the Irish Hospice Foundation which surveyed 34 organisations on their bereavement policies and found that 88% did not have written guidelines on the subject.

The companies ranged in size from 100-5,000 employees and all had experienced employee bereavement in the last year.
