THE Labour Court has awarded €5,000 to each of four senior dental surgeons because the health service failed to provide the training they expected.

The four were employed in 1993 to work under secondment at St Finbarr’s Hospital in Cork to help cut the public waiting list for orthodontic treatment.

The case was taken by the Irish Dental Association against Cork University Hospital — the city’s main teaching hospital and under whose jurisdiction St Finbarr’s falls.
