Gardaí’s €6m drugs find a ‘blow to trafficking outfit’
Detectives continued to question two men yesterday after they were arrested during the search on Thursday night.
Officers from Dundrum Drug Unit in south Dublin raided a warehouse and yards at Clonkeen Road in Cornelscourt following a surveillance operation.
They found a virtual drugs market, with large quantities of heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and herbal cannabis, with a total combined street value of up to €6m.
The haul is thought to include 19kg of heroin, worth €3.8m, 14kg of cocaine, valued at €980,000, 31,000 ecstasy tablets, worth €310,000 and 5kg of herbal cannabis, with a value of around €10,000.
Forensic examination is being carried out to determine the purity of the drugs seized, which will determine the full value of the haul.
“This is a significant drug seizure, all the more so given the range of quantities seized,” said a Garda source.
Two men, aged 26 and 27, and from Ballybrack and Stepaside, were arrested at the scene by gardaí and detained under the Drug Trafficking Act. This allows for a maximum detention period of seven days.
Gardaí believe the drug dealer behind the operation is a major supplier of drugs to other gangs in south Dublin and north Wicklow.
Gardaí were conducting further enquiries yesterday throughout south Dublin. They are being assisted in their inquiries by the Garda National Drugs Unit.
