They confirmed that an investigation was carried out into an indecent assault after a boy, aged 16, made a complaint to them.

The assault occurred at around 8pm last Monday and involved a local man in his 30s.

“There was no rape,” a garda spokesman said. A file is being prepared for the DPP and the man may be charged with indecently assaulting a person under the age of 17.

Gardaí said the man at the centre of the allegation was allowed out on bail as he is not considered a risk to the public.

Meanwhile, Limerick gardaí were questioning a man and a woman, both in their late 20s, in connection with the April 26 murder of Noel Campion.

He was shot dead while riding pillion on a motorbike as it travelled through the Thomondgate area.

His brother Gary has been charged with the murder of ‘Fat Frankie’ Ryan on September 17 last and the murder of Noel Campion may have been carried out in retaliation.

Superintendent John Kerin, who is heading the Noel Campion murder investigation, said the two people arrested yesterday were being questioned about withholding information from the Gardaí.
