Hurling star sets charity race goal
The 800m swim, 33km cycle and 10km run, which takes place in Cork’s Farran Woods on Saturday, September 1, aims to raise €250,000 for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin and the Irish Cancer Society.
Since its inception in 2002, the Musgrave Triathlon, supported each year by the Irish Examiner, has raised €2 million for the charities.
“Whether you are super-fit and want to give all three disciplines a bash or you are a cycler, a swimmer, or a runner who can get together with three mates to do a leg each, I would encourage as many of you as possible to get involved and enter this great, fun event,” Deane said.
Funds raised from the Triathlon have been used to build a new unit for young cancer patients in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital.
The unit provides extra clinics, clinical assessment rooms and a patient play area, giving young patients and their families’ access to a sensitive environment.
Entry forms and training schedules are available at www.msvc-triathlon.com or contact Musgrave SuperValu-Centra on tel: 021 480 3000.
