Gardaí to question injured man
A meat factory worker from the Ukraine, in his 20s, died from stab wounds after a fight broke out in a house. A Latvian man in his 50s is in Nenagh General Hospital recovering from a single stab wound.
The dead man received four stab wounds to the upper body after a row broke out at a house party in the Coachyard area at about 1.45am on Sunday.
Gardaí were called to the house where they found the body of one man who had died a short time earlier from stab wounds.
Another man had been taken to the local hospital.
Superintendent Bob Noonan, who is heading the investigation, said up to six other foreign nationals — men and women — who were in the house at the time have given statements to gardaí.
The body of the dead man was removed from the scene to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick where State pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, carried out a post mortem.
The scene was still cordoned off yesterday as garda forensic experts carried out an extensive examination of the house.
It is believed that the knife used in the fatal stabbing is located in the kitchen area of the house.
The dead man and the injured Latvian have been living in the town for some time. A number of houses in the Coachyard area are rented by Eastern European families.
