Deaths of two eastern European men under investigation

The latest death happened in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, in the early hours of yesterday morning, after a man was assaulted at a party in a house in the Coach Yard.

Gardaí were alerted at about 1.45am and arrived to find the body of a man in his 30s and believed to be from Latvia or Ukraine, in suspicious circumstances. A post-mortem examination being carried out by State pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy last night was expected to confirm that he suffered several stab wounds.

Another man, believed to be in his 50s, was taken from the scene with a stab wound and was being treated in hospital last night.

Last night, mystery still surrounded the death of a 32-year-old Romanian man whose body was found outside his house in Drogheda, Co Louth, on Friday night.

The grim discovery was made by another Romanian man who was returning to the house at Brookville at about 11pm on Friday.

The body is believed to have been lying in a hedge and was not visible from the road outside the house.

The death was classified as a murder after the post-mortem examination, carried out by Dr Cassidy at Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda on Saturday afternoon, found that the man had died from stab wounds.

Meanwhile, gardaí have ruled out foul play in the death of a teenage girl found in a Co Donegal holiday flat early yesterday morning.

The 15-year-old, from Belfast, was found by a teenage friend in the apartment in Ballintra, where they were staying with a group of friends.

She complained of feeling unwell and stayed in the apartment when the others went out on Saturday evening. When they returned at about midnight they found her dead. Dr Cassidy is expected to conduct a post-mortem examination today.
