Because today it is not just fools, horses and Trotters Independent Traders clearing their garages and bringing their wares to market.

According to figures released by the internet auction site eBay the whole country is at it.

The website has broken down the activity of Irish users with some startling findings — other ones are a little more predictable.

Interestingly, the people of Clare sell five times more music than any other county.

And motor-mouths in Cork are shipping more mobile phone accessories than anywhere else.

Munster and National league hurling champions Waterford fork out the most money per capita on sports equipment.

And All Ireland-title starved Donegal spend the most amount of money on sports memorabilia from bygone days.

But unexpectedly the people who devote the largest portion of their wages to on-line haggling hail from Laois.

They spend more money on cars, trucks, office equipment and industrial goods than any other county.

eBay Ireland managing director John McElligott said the rest of the country should take their hats off to the Queen’s county.

“Laois has a strong record of buying and selling on eBay.ie however they surprised even us when they emerged as winners,” he said.

The website has become world-famous as an online meeting place for people wanting to find a welcome home for their unwanted goods.

All people have to do is put their item up for sale and let other internet users’ bid for the prize.

In its review of Irish business eBay has revealed some county’s are striking up a mutually beneficial business relationships.

Kerry is selling coins and Galway is buying them.

Clare flogs its collectibles into Carlow’s open arms.

And Louth children ship their unwanted toys across the border to Cavan, who buy more in this category than anywhere else.

Wicklow is the biggest supplier of baby goods and the most active buyer.
