A FORMER librarian recorded a turn-up for the books when he won the world’s richest literary prize — on the nomination of librarians.

Norwegian Per Petterson was named as winner of the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award yesterday, beating 137 authors nominated by 169 public libraries in 49 countries.

The 54-year-old won the award for his 2003 novel Out Stealing Horses, originally in Norwegian. He shares his €100,000 prize with Anne Born, who translated the book in 2005.
