Two questioned over fatal stabbing
The 27-year-old victim died on Sunday night after being found at 3am that morning with stab wounds to one of his legs.
The incident in Swords, north Dublin, was one of three knife attacks in the capital at the weekend.
Two men, aged 19 and 24, were arrested on Sunday.
The stabbing took place on Oaklands Avenue in Swords. Gardaí said the victim was taken to Beaumont Hospital by ambulance but died shortly before 10pm.
The two men arrested were detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Swords and Malahide Garda stations.
A Garda spokesman said they were not releasing the man’s name until all relatives had been contacted.
In another incident, a 19-year-old male was stabbed in Dún Laoghaire, south Dublin, at 4am on Sunday. The stabbing is thought to have followed a row with a group of youths. A 16-year-old was arrested in relation to the incident, but was released later on Sunday.
In a separate attack, at 4am on Sunday, three male youths suffered minor stab wounds during a row in Lucan, west Dublin.
Fine Gael’s spokesman on justice Jim O’Keeffe expressed concern at the number of stabbing incidents. He said figures released to him by the Central Statistics Office showed there were 146 serious stabbings last year.
There were 18 homicides and 128 serious assaults involving knives. This was a significant increase on previous years.
Meanwhile, gardaí, in the Swords area are seeking assistance in identifying the body of a man who was found dead last Saturday between the Airside Business Park and Holywell in Swords.
The man is described as aged 40-50 years, height 1.82m (about 6ft), with a moustache, average build and curly black hair going grey. He was wearing a navy tracksuit with pink stripes on the tracksuit bottoms. He had a woollen, zipped jumper and black leather shoes. He was carrying a small Celtic-type silver cross in his pocket.
