Owners of bigger cars face 100% permit increase

THE owners of SUVs and luxury car models in Dublin could be facing a 100% hike in the cost of residents’ parking permits under controversial proposals by the local authority.

New draft parking bye-laws issued by Dublin City Council will raise the cost of an annual parking permit for vehicles over a certain length to €80 compared to €40 for standard-size cars.

Although the council is not specifically targeting specific categories of vehicles like SUVs, the owners of large four-wheel drive jeeps are likely to find themselves paying the higher rate.
