Consumers to be prosecuted for border dumping

OFFICIALS trying to trace those responsible for illegally dumping Cork waste across the Northern border have warned that if they find evidence pointing to waste coming from local householders or businesses they will be prosecuted as well as the dumpers.

More than 200 tonnes of waste, which originated in Cork city, has been transported to a landfill in Dundalk.

A senior official in Cork City Council revealed yesterday that more than a dozen trucks were used in the operation. He said the cost to the local authority would be at least €50,000.
