Man claiming to be killer of elderly walks free

A FORMER care assistant who claimed he was involved in killing up to 10 elderly patients at the country’s largest hospice is unlikely to face any charges in relation to the matter.

Man claiming to be killer of elderly walks free

The 31-year-old, who lives in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, was released from custody without charge by Northern police early yesterday morning.

The man was questioned for several hours about his claim after handing himself in to Antrim Road police in Belfast on Tuesday evening.

Two gardai travelled to Northern Ireland to assist in the inquiry.

The man worked in Our Lady’s Hospice at Harold’s Cross, Dublin, in 1997 and 1998.

Last night, however, law enforcement sources on both sides of the border said there appeared to be no substance to his claims.

Gardai admitted they were sceptical about the man’s confession and suspected he was “an attention seeker.”

Investigations were continuing, they said.
