Man dies after fall from roof of farm building
Kevin Griffin, of Killognaveen, Caherciveen, was working on the roof of a farm outhouse when he slipped and fell about 16 feet onto a concrete floor on Saturday afternoon.
The father of two teenage children, he is believed to have sustained serious head injuries.
He was removed by ambulance to Kerry General Hospital, Tralee, but died later from his injuries.
The late Mr Griffin specialised in the building of slatted units and farm sheds and was working for a farmer in the area when the accident occurred.
Superintendent Michael O’Donovan, Caherciveen, confirmed the accident was also being investigated by the Health and Safety Authority.
“It’s a terrible tragedy for the Griffin family in the week coming up to Christmas,” he said.
A post-mortem examination has been carried out at Kerry General Hospital.
Meanwhile, a 58-year-old woman battling a serious illness for some time died yesterday in a house fire.
The woman, named locally as Margaret Cohen, died in the 3.30am blaze at her rented home on River Road, Cartron Point, Sligo.
She is believed to have been in a downstairs room when the fire started. Gardaí said early indications are that the blaze may have been started by a smouldering cigarette on a couch.
The victim had been living in Sligo with her partner. She is believed to have been suffering from throat cancer.
