Resounding success of Harley rally paves way for another motorbike event
The tourist playground has been earmarked as a likely venue for a new European bike festival called Ireland Bike Week 2007.
However, sponsorship is needed and Killarney Town Council has been asked by Bernard O’Reilly, one of the chief organisers, to provide €10,000-€15,000 to secure the event.
Financial support is also being sought from Fáilte Ireland, Kerry County Council and commercial sponsors.
Mr O’Reilly said participants would come from Europe, the North, Britain and this country.
“The inaugural event would attract up to 2,000 enthusiasts and that number will grow year on year as the profile of the event grows in Killarney,” he added.
Mr O’Reilly expects to receive the backing of Harley Davidson Europe for marketing and promotional purposes. But, he pointed out, Harley would not be financially backing the event.
