‘Tánaiste to blame for gun attack on boy’

THE Labour Party claimed last night that Tánaiste and Justice Minister Michael McDowell must share the political responsibility for a horror gun attack that injured a five-year-old boy.

Limerick East TD Jan O’Sullivan said she laid the blame at the Justice Minister’s door because he had failed to provide garda with sufficient resources to quell the wave of violence sweeping the area.

But Mr McDowell hit back, saying he had been assured by the Garda Commissioner the force “had the wherewithal” to cope with the gang-related attacks.
