Never mind the weather, WIT still outshines Trinity College

WATERFORD Institute of Technology outshines several universities, including Trinity College in the jobs market. All of last year’s graduates are in employment, the institute’s proud director, Professor Kieran R Byrne, has revealed.

Never mind the weather, WIT still outshines Trinity College

WIT ranks higher than Trinity in the jobs market, the recent Sunday Times University Guide confirms. It affirms the institute’s collective efforts to excel, Prof Byrne said, at the first of nine conferring ceremonies over three days at the College Street campus in Waterford.

“We are exceptionally pleased that the institute’s academic awards are so highly valued by employers and to read headlines like ‘Waterford outshines Trinity in jobs market’ in the Sunday Times University Guide affirms our collective efforts.

“Waterford graduates are among the first to be employed, secure higher initial salaries and build career paths of distinction. By now, every one of the graduates conferred here 12 months ago are in employment, pursuing further studies at postgraduate level or enjoying a period of travel prior to commencing their professional careers.

“This remarkable employment rate shows clearly that the marketplace looks favourably on our well-planned and -taught programmes that are up-to-speed and attuned to meeting future as well as present needs. The almost 2,900 graduates being conferred this week will no doubt also find employers receptive to them.

“The establishment at the institute of a specific unit to manage programme and course development is of significant value in this regard. This unit combines internal and external expertise from higher education and the world of work and provides the institute with research that allows us focus on introducing new degrees that are of tremendous relevance. Indeed, the uptake by students of the new programmes commenced in September would suggest that they too appreciate the new pathways we are continually opening out.”
