Murdered gang boss’s son in court fracas
Joseph Keane, aged 18, of Garryowen House, Greenhill Road, Garryowen, was given a two-month suspended jail sentence when he pleaded guilty to a public order offence.
Last week two men and a juvenile were jailed after rival feuding gangs attacked each other in the court.
Joseph Keane is the son of Kieran Keane, who was murdered on the outskirts of the city in 2003. Five men were jailed for life on being convicted of the murder of Kieran Keane.
Garda Dominic Curtin said Keane got a face wound when he received a punch in a row in the foyer of the courthouse earlier. He said Keane had no previous convictions.
Keane pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive and insulting language with intent to provoke a breach of the peace contrary to the Public Order Act.
John Devane, solicitor for Keane said: “He has put his hands up at the earliest possible stage.”
Judge Tom O’Donnell imposed a two-month jail sentence, suspended on condition Keane be of good behaviour for 12 months.
