Four new Aer Lingus directors appointed

The Government is planning to privatise the national airline. While company bosses argue it must be sold off to protect its future, workers and union leaders claim it is not in the best long-term interests of the country and fear it could result in job cuts.

Transport Minister Martin Cullen announced the appointment of Greg O’Sullivan, who joined the airline in 1997, as executive director. Non-executive directors include Danuta Gray, chief executive of O2 Ireland, Thomas J Moran, president and chief executive of Mutual of America, and Michael Johns, representing the Employee Share Ownership Trust of the airline.

Despite opposing privatisation, SIPTU has urged its 1,800 members in Aer Lingus to accept the Labour Court’s Recommendations in a ballot next month.
