Opposition leaders urge radical garda reform

URGENT reform of An Garda Síochána is needed to restore public confidence in the force battered by corruption and ill-discipline scandals, opposition leaders last night insisted.

Labour’s Pat Rabbitte demanded the creation of a Garda Authority to oversee the service in the wake of the latest damning report by the Morris Tribunal.

He insisted the findings of the probe into corruption in Donegal left no doubt about the extent of the problem across the State.
