A MOTHER OF ONE has been arrested over the shooting dead of her partner in north Cork on Monday night.

Mother of one held after partner shot

The woman, named by neighbours as Eve Walker, was arrested a short time after Charlie Wrench, originally from England, was blasted with a shotgun in the upper body or head in an upstairs bedroom of his home in Dromiscane, outside Millstreet.

Gardaí were called to the two-storey house in the rural area four miles from Millstreet, at around 9.45pm on Monday.

A short time later, they arrested Ms Walker, a native of Northern Ireland, who is in her 30s. Mr Wrench was declared dead at the scene.

Garda sources have confirmed there were young children close to the house around the time of the shooting.

Mr Wrench’s partner was taken to Kanturk Garda Station where she was detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

A shotgun was discovered at the scene and removed for technical examination. The house, which is on two acres of land, was sealed off.

The father of two children, aged five and 10, had returned earlier on Monday to his home with his partner and her young daughter from a holiday in the North.

Yesterday, the deceased man’s body remained at the house while members of the Garda Technical Bureau and Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster travelled to the remote scene.

The technical bureau arrived at 4pm, while Dr Bolster began her examination later in the evening.

Detective Superintendent Tony Quilter and Superintendent Tom Duggan also visited the scene yesterday.

Yesterday evening, Supt Duggan, who is leading the investigation, said: “At 9.45pm (on August 14), the gardaí were called to the scene of an incident on the outskirts of Millstreet.

“The gardaí and the emergency services arrived at the scene and discovered the body of a male in the bedroom of a house. The area was immediately sealed off and the scene preserved.

“A woman has been arrested in relation to the incident and is being detained at Kanturk Garda Station.”

According to neighbours, Mr Wrench’s young daughters were being looked after by their mother and a relation of Ms Walker’s was travelling from the north to be with her child.
