MOST delays in student grant payments are caused by incomplete application forms and insufficient documentation, parents have been advised as thousands of prospective college students await their Leaving Certificate results.

The pressure will be on the country’s Vocational Education Committees (VECs), which handle around two-thirds of all third-level student support grant applications, when a tranche of claims comes in after the first round of college place offers is made in less than three weeks’ time.

But the Irish Vocational Education Association (IVEA), which represents the VECs, said it is up to applicants and their families to ensure that application forms are submitted on time and with all the necessary documents.
