RNLI calls for vigilance as four rescued in sea drama

HOLIDAYMAKERS who are venturing out to sea or on to remote beaches are being urged to ask locals about tides and any potential dangers, emergency services have urged.

RNLI calls for vigilance as four rescued in sea drama

The appeal comes in the wake of the rescue of four foreign nationals on a section of beach along the Waterford coast on Saturday evening. The four people were stranded and the Helvic Head lifeboat was launched in a rescue bid.

The RNLI service said the four people stranded were not aware that the tide was about to rise. The lifeboat was not able to reach the holidaymakers and a helicopter was summoned to winch them to safety.
