IRISH women are more likely than their EU counterparts to die from cancers, heart disease, suicide and traffic accidents, according to a report.

Young Irish men are less likely to be killed in road accidents while middle-aged men are less likely to die from lung and throat cancer than those in the rest of Europe, the figures show.

The report looks at the main causes of death among the different age groups in the 25 EU countries during 2003.
