Woman in ‘cruel agony’ awaits special pump implant

THE PLIGHT of a Ballybunion multiple sclerosis (MS) sufferer was raised in the Dáil yesterday by Labour leader Pat Rabbitte who outlined how the woman, Breda Gorman, has been in pain for two years while she awaits the insertion of a specialist pump.

An exasperated Mr Rabbitte told the Taoiseach during Leader’s questions how the woman’s husband, Tony, had described his wife as being in “cruel agony” on a daily basis, “ending up in tears morning and night”.

In a letter to the Mr Rabbitte, read into the Dáil record, Mr Gorman described how his wife has worsening pressure sores and spasms and is unable to travel beyond the house, because of pain.
