Gardaí question driver as hit-and-run investigation continues
They also interviewed two men who were passengers in the car which struck four pedestrians on the Togher Road last Sunday morning.
Superintendent Ger Dillane said a file will be prepared for the DPP in due course but up to 100 people must still be interviewed.
The major breakthrough came following forensic tests which were carried out on a vehicle recovered in the Mayfield area on Tuesday.
Garda experts examined a red Volkswagen Polo, with a 99C registration plate, which gardaí are confident was the vehicle involved in the accident.
Four people — two men and two women — were injured when a car mounted the footpath opposite the Deanrock Bar just before 1am.
The pedestrians had just left the pub and had crossed the road when they were hit from behind.
One of the men was carried on the bonnet for up to 40 yards, witnesses said.
The two women were released from hospital on Sunday morning.
One of the young men who was seriously injured was discharged from hospital yesterday. The other young man was still in a critical condition in Cork University Hospital last night.
Gardaí are hoping to interview both men in the coming days.
