Polish man found dead in rented Cork house
The man, 36, was found dead in a bedroom at a rented house on the northside of the city shortly before 9.30am yesterday.
He was discovered by one of three other people who shared the house at 12A Commons View, near Fairhill Road, Farranree.
Gardaí were immediately called to the scene and they cordoned off the area before carrying out an initial technical examination of the scene.
Shocked neighbours said the occupants of the house, none of whom were known to them, had rented the building just before Christmas.
They were described as all being in their 20s and 30s and one was a woman.
It is unclear if the man suffered the injuries at the house or elsewhere.
All three flatmates were interviewed by detectives from Mayfield and Watercourse Road Garda Stations.
Neighbour Frances Dunlea said she went to bed at 1.30am and heard a number of dogs “which were barking mad” at the time.
Her daughter, Anne Cronin, said she had seen some of the occupants of the house for the first time the previous morning.
“They are renting the house. The owners have gone to Lanzarote,” she said.
The scene was visited by Detective Superintendent Tony Quilter and Superintendent Martin Shanahan. Local priest Fr Kieran Twomey went to the house to administer the last rites.
Members of the Garda Technical Bureau and Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster examined the scene last night.
