Dan’s book to help keep men afloat

RENAISSANCE man is living in Cork and has just written a book with everything you ever wanted to know about life, the universe and, well, the male condition

Dan’s book to help keep men afloat

“This book is a series of hilarious stories observed from the male perspective,” said RTÉ’s John Creedon, who officially launched Irish Examiner columnist Dan Buckley’s first book, Man Overboard, at the Beamish and Crawford Brewery in Cork last night.

“Being male is actually a condition,” added John who went on to say Dan is a finisher. “So many people go on about having a book in them, but they don’t finish.”

Dan has been writing a humorous column on domestic despair from a male point of view every Saturday in the Irish Examiner for nearly two decades.

When he was asked by Merlin Publishers to write Man Overboard, he rose to the challenge and completed it in under six months.

Man Overboard explores male friendship through the forum of a poker school.

“Women do the friend-thing so much better. I have a lot of male buddies but in a lot of cases, men are afraid of affection towards each other,” said Dan.

“I don’t regard caring as gender specific but I am actually a feminist. Germaine Greer is my hero;. she has liberated not just women but also men.”

Dan hopes that readers will find his book amusing. “But it’s not just about having a laugh. I think there is a male dilemma around the place. Men don’t really like each other "

The launch was attended by Irish Examiner editor Tim Vaughan, Dan’ colleagues, wife Lorraine, their three children and his mother, Imelda.

Man Overboard by Dan Buckley is published by Merlin.
